National Cinema Day to be celebrated with ₱100 tickets

Moviegoers across the country can watch a movie for just ₱100 as the Philippines celebrates its first-ever National Cinema Day tomorrow, September 12.

More than 100 cinemas are joining the one-day celebration, giving audiences the chance to watch local and international films for just ₱100. The offer applies to regular 2D screenings at participating cinemas nationwide.

The event, organized by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP), brings major cinema operators and independent theaters together to celebrate the experience of watching movies in theaters.

Participating cinemas include  SM, Ayala Malls, and Robinsons theater chains, as well as independent theaters and other major operators in the country.

Several current releases will be available at the discounted price, including “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” “Practical Magic 2,” “Insidious: Out of the Further,” “PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie,” and “Life After You,” along with other local and international films to be released that day.

The celebration will also give audiences a chance to revisit Filipino favorites on the big screen. Classics such as “Anak,” “Himala,” “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” “One More Chance,” and “Tanging Yaman” are returning to cinemas, while recent releases including “Project Hail Mary,” “Obsession,” “Backrooms,” “Final Destinations: Bloodlines,” and “The Conjuring: Last Rites” will also be part of the lineup.

Those planning to watch can buy tickets ahead of time through participating cinema box offices, websites, mobile apps, and authorized ticketing platforms. Seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, with availability depending on each cinema's seating capacity.

The National Cinema Day is backed by several film and government organizations, including the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The event comes at a time when the local film industry is encouraging more people to return to cinemas, particularly as audiences have grown accustomed to watching movies and other content on streaming platforms and through personal devices.
