The four-time Tony Award-winning production “MJ The Michael Jackson Musical” is coming to Singapore in August 2027 at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands for a limited season.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 2021 and has been watched by more than 8 million people worldwide. As reported by Broadway World, it has previously been staged on Broadway, in London’s West End and Hamburg, as well as on tour across the United States and Australia.
Set in 1992, the musical offers a behind-the-scenes look at Michael Jackson as he prepares for his “Dangerous World Tour.” Through the lens of an MTV journalist granted rare access to his rehearsals, the production looks back at pivotal moments in Jackson’s career and artistry as he develops his vision for the tour.
The Singapore production also has a special connection to the period depicted in the show. Jackson performed two sold-out concerts in Singapore during his Dangerous World Tour in 1993. His story will now return to the city in musical form, giving audiences across the region a chance to experience the award-winning production in a place where the “King of Pop” once performed.
Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, whose works include the acclaimed plays “Ruined” and “Sweat,” “MJ Musical” features more than 25 songs from Jackson’s catalogue, including “Beat It,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Thriller.”
The production brings these hits together with electrifying choreography and world-class theatrical design while exploring the creative process behind the tour.
Christopher Wheeldon OBE, who directs and choreographs the musical, said in a statement that the production aims to celebrate not only Jackson’s best-known songs but also the “artistry, innovation and creative spirit” behind his work.
Meanwhile, presenter and Base Entertainment Asia CEO Chantal Prudhomme said bringing "MJ" to Singapore will give longtime fans a chance to experience Jackson’s “music and signature choreography” on stage again, while offering those who never saw him perform live an opportunity to experience some of that “energy and magic” for themselves.
A ticket waitlist is now open until September 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM SGT. Registered subscribers will receive a dedicated ticket purchase link by email, while exact performance dates, cast details and ticket prices have yet to be announced.
