Lyca Gairanod just revealed on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” that being a singer was not her dream, but that she really wanted to be a dancer.

During her appearance on the talk show last Tuesday, October 6, the 21-year-old looked back on how she used to join dance contests.

Lyca said her perspective changed after watching Sarah Geronimo, who later became her coach on “The Voice Kids Philippines.” Seeing Sarah excel at both singing and dancing inspired Lyca to pursue both talents.

“So, minsan natatalo, minsan nananalo. Well, okay lang naman po yun. Kasama naman yun sa journey ng buhay,” she said.

Lyca discovered that she could sing when she was six. She was already drawn to music and would often sing wherever she went, admitting that she also enjoyed getting people's attention.

That passion for singing eventually led Lyca to the first season of “The Voice Kids Philippines” in 2014. She was only nine years old when she joined the popular singing contest. During her Blind Audition, she impressed the coaches with her performance of Aegis’ rock ballad “Halik,” prompting Sarah Geronimo to turn her chair and welcome her to Team Sarah.

She later returned to the stage for the grand finale, where she performed a powerful rendition of another Aegis classic, “Basang-Basa sa Ulan,” alongside the band itself.

She eventually won the first season of the competition, while Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Darlene Vibares finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.

Now, more than a decade after her “The Voice Kids” victory, Lyca is once again gaining attention online as her earlier song “Pwede Nang Mangarap” resurfaces across social media. Its catchy, easy-to-follow dance steps, upbeat sound, and colorful, rainbow-themed music video have helped fuel its renewed popularity years after its release.

Netizens have since turned the song into an internet favorite, using it as humorous background audio or a vocal stim during everyday survival moments and personal milestones.
