KZ Tandingan recently said that she is not in a hurry to become a mother since parenthood is a lifelong responsibility.

During her guest appearance on “Gandang Gabi, Vice!” with her husband, singer TJ Monterde, Vice Ganda brought up the pressure married couples in the Philippines often face when it comes to having children.

He asked KZ, 34, and TJ, 36, how they respond when people question why they still don't have kids after being together for years.

“Ever since naman, si TJ talaga iyong nag-o-open up na ready na siya maging tatay,” KZ said. “But, it's more on my side na may mga gusto pa akong gawing bagay sa career ko, may gusto pa akong mga i-build sa sarili ko as a person, as a woman.”

For KZ, becoming a parent is a major responsibility that goes beyond having financial stability or successful careers.

“I want to make sure that I'm not a baby taking care of a baby,” she said.

The singer and rapper acknowledged that no one can ever be completely prepared for parenthood, but she believes people should at least make an effort to be ready for the responsibility.

“It's not even a matter of... Kasi, like, 'pag sinasabihan kami na, 'May pera, sold out 'yung mga shows tapos ganito.' But, it doesn't just end with that. Hindi lang siya gano'n eh. It's a lifetime responsibility,” KZ explained.

“Ayoko na parang mag-anak lang ako because I was pressured into becoming a mom. Ayoko lang maging nanay kasi kailangan mo may mag-aalaga kapag tumanda,” she said.

KZ also shared that she has had long and personal conversations with God about motherhood. “Lord, to be honest with you, well, alam mo naman ang laman ng puso ko, Lord. But, to be honest with you, I'm not saying I don't wanna be a mom but I'm not yet ready to be a mom,” she recalled.

She said that if becoming a mother is part of God's plan for her, she hopes to be guided toward it naturally and genuinely.

TJ, meanwhile, fully supported his wife's decision. Although he admitted that he personally feels ready to become a father, he said he respects KZ's timeline and that he is already happy with their life together.

“Sapat na sa akin 'yun. Kung magkaka-baby kami, that's a blessing. But kung kaming dalawa lang, I'm very much happy with my life right now with my wife,” TJ said.

KZ and TJ have been together for 11 years and married for six. They started dating in 2015 and got married in an intimate garden ceremony at The Farm at San Benito in Batangas in 2020. In 2023, they held a second ceremony on their third anniversary so family members and friends who missed the first wedding could attend.
