Korean remake of ‘The Intern’ with Han So-hee and Choi Min-sik set for September release

The hit 2015 Hollywood comedy "The Intern" is getting a South Korean film adaptation, with powerhouse actors Han So-hee and Choi Min-sik leading the cast. 

Warner Bros. Korea officially announced the project on Tuesday, unveiling its first poster and trailer alongside a theatrical release date of September 16.

The remake reimagines the original film, which starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. Han plays Sun-woo, the fastidious, workaholic CEO of an e-commerce fashion startup. 

Choi portrays Ki-ho, a seasoned professional with 37 years of corporate experience who re-enters the workforce as a senior intern, facing the unique challenge of navigating a modern office culture dominated by a much younger generation.

Directed by Nancy Meyers, the 2015 original grossed over $194 million worldwide against a $35 million budget, making it a major commercial success.

Choi Min-sik, one of South Korea's most legendary actors, takes on the role originally played by De Niro. 

He is globally renowned for his performances in cinematic landmarks such as "Oldboy" and the recent box-office hit "Exhuma."

Stepping into Hathaway’s shoes, Han So-hee has solidified her status as an international star through leading roles in hit series like "My Name" and "Gyeongseong Creature."

The adaptation is helmed by director Kim Do-young, known for her sharp character studies in "Kim Ji-young: Born 1982" (2019) and "Once We Were Us" (2025). 

Rounding out the ensemble are Kim Jun-han (Hospital Playlist) and Ryu Hye-young (Reply 1988), who join the supporting cast as key employees at Sun-woo’s fashion firm.
