Kim Ji Soo honored to work with Alden Richards, Nadine Lustre in 'Love Siargao'

Korean actor Kim Ji Soo considers the Philippines as more than just a place to work in. He describes the country as his second home. 

The actor shared how the country's laid-back culture has changed his lifestyle, and why he feels honored to work alongside Alden Richards and Nadine Lustre. 

During an interview with TV journalist Karen Davila, Ji Soo spoke warmly about his life in the Philippines. He is now based in the upscale BGC area in Taguig City. He said living in the country positively changed both his lifestyle and outlook.

"For me, being in the Philippines, it changed me a lot—my lifestyle, my attitude, everything," he shared. "Since I came here, I feel more chill, smile more, and became more playful."

Ji Soo said he appreciates the differences between Korean and Filipino culture, describing Korea as having a more serious atmosphere while Filipinos tend to be more relaxed and nice.

“That's why I like it. People are very friendly here," he added. The 33-year-old also acknowledged that competition exists everywhere but believes Filipino people have a different mindset.

Ji Soo then spoke about working with Alden Richards and Nadine Lustre in the upcoming Filipino Viu Original series “Love Siargao,” where he plays the owner of Katig Cottage, a hotel in Siargao, and the boss of Kyline Alcantara's character.

"I'm really honored to work with Alden and Nadine," he said. "Especially Alden—I can see him everywhere in Manila. Wherever I go, it's always 'Alden, Alden, Alden.'"

He added that both stars made him feel welcome despite being a foreigner.

"Nadine and Alden are so friendly to me. I'm kind of a foreigner, so they always take care of me. They're super nice," he shared. "I also learn from them. That's why they're superstars. Maybe I should copy them."

Asked whether he would consider settling in the Philippines, Ji Soo said he already feels at home in the country. “Of course, I'm Korean, but for me it's like another province because Korea is only four hours away. I can easily go back and forth," he said.

“Love Siargao" marks another major Philippine project for the actor.  Before relocating to the Philippines, Ji Soo was known for his roles in the Korean dramas “My First First Love,” “Strong Girl Bong-soon,” and “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.”

He moved to the country to restart his career and begin a new life after stepping away from the South Korean entertainment industry in 2021. Ji Soo was the subject of bullying allegations related to his high school years. The issue was later resolved through legal action and apologies, although his image and career had already suffered.

Since launching his career in the country, Ji Soo has signed with Sparkle GMA Artist Center. He has appeared in several television series and films, including “Black Rider,” “Mujigae,” “Sanggang-Dikit,” and “Never Say Die.” He also became a guest housemate on “Pinoy Big Brother.”
