Kai Sotto and Rere Madrid expecting first baby: 'Team boy or team girl?'

Weeks after basketball star Kai Sotto and actress Rere Madrid revealed that they have tied the knot, the couple surprised fans with more news: they are expecting their first child together.

The couple announced the pregnancy through a joint Instagram post on Monday, June 22. 

Along with the announcement, they shared a video compilation featuring their loved ones’ reactions to Rere’s pregnancy, as well as clips from medical checkups, ultrasounds, early pregnancy milestones, and moments showing the model and actress’ growing baby bump.

“For a while, we’ve been living in our own little world. Holding onto a secret that made every day feel like an adventure.”

“Every moment, every plan, every quiet smile. It was all for you. And now, we finally get to share it. WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!! Our greatest adventure is just beginning, and you’re already the best part of it,” the couple wrote in the caption.

The video opened with the message, “We’ve been keeping the most beautiful news…” before adding, “And now we’re ready to share it.”

Among the highlights were the candid reactions from both families. In one clip, Kai’s family learned about the pregnancy and immediately responded with big smiles and warm congratulations. 

The basketball star’s father embraced Rere, while his mother shared her happiness, saying, “Syempre happy, blessing ’yan eh.”

Another emotional moment showed Rere’s parents receiving the news. At first, her father appeared unsure and waited to see if the announcement was just a “prank.” But once he realized it was real, he became emotional and asked the couple if they were ready for parenthood. 

Fighting back tears, he turned to Kai and said, “Isa lang Kai, huwag mong sasaktan si Rere.” 

He then asked Kai to promise that he would continue loving and caring for his daughter, even when he is no longer around. 

Rere’s father added that he was happy because he knew his daughter was with the right partner. Meanwhile, Rere’s mother was left speechless by the news.

The video also featured actor Ruru Madrid, Rere’s brother, sharing his honest reaction. 

Upon seeing a sonogram marked “seven weeks,” he lowered his head in disbelief and surprised before blurting out, “Oh, shi—!” He later composed himself and delivered a touching message to his younger sister.

“Masaya ako. Kasi to be honest, kung iisipin mo na magagalit ako sa’yo, no. Bakit? Anong point? Kung nasaan ka ngayon may dahilan kung bakit diyan ka nilagay. At tandaan mo na kakampi mo ako dito. Kami,” he told Rere.

Rere also thanked actress Bianca Umali, Ruru’s longtime girlfriend, revealing that Bianca was among the people who supported her and gave her the courage she needed throughout the journey.

As the video came to a close, the couple thanked everyone who had been part of the special moment. “To everyone here, thank you for sharing this moment with us,” they said, before ending with the question: “Now… Team girl or team boy?”

Following the announcement, congratulatory messages poured in from fans, friends and fellow celebrities. Among those who shared their well-wishes were Angel Guardian, Carla Abellana, and Ashley Ortega. 

“Naiyak ako… congratulations to the both of you,” Ashley wrote.

Ruru also wrote a heartfelt public message for his sister and brother-in-law, saying, “Congratulations Bunso at Bayaw! Mahal ko kayo.”

Rere, 26 and Kai, 24, first went public with their relationship in 2024. After two years of dating, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate garden ceremony last May.
