"Jona Chapters," the latest solo concert of singer-songwriter Jona, will support her animal welfare advocacy of spaying and neutering dogs and cats.

The show, to be held on November 14 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City, is slated a day before Jona’s 37th birthday, makes the show both a musical celebration and a way of giving back to a cause close to her heart.

In a Facebook post, Jona explained why spaying and neutering are important. “Every life deserves a better chapter,” she wrote.

“Beyond the music and celebration, this concert will help support our spay and neuter advocacy – one of the most important ways that can make a difference in the lives of animals, helping prevent unwanted litters, reduce animal homelessness and suffering before it even begins.”

Spaying involves surgically removing the ovaries, and usually the uterus, of a female animal to prevent pregnancy. Neutering, meanwhile, involves removing the testicles of a male animal, preventing them from fathering puppies or kittens.

Aside from helping manage the stray animal population, these procedures can also benefit pets’ health over time. Sterilized animals may live longer and healthier lives by avoiding certain reproductive diseases. Spaying and neutering may also help prevent serious infections and lower the risk of some cancers.

Frank Lloyd Mamaril will helm the show, while Bobby Velasco serves as musical director. Tickets are now available on Ticketnet online, from ₱900 to ₱5,800, covering Balcony to SVIP.

Jona started rescuing stray dogs and cats in 2009. She has established a private animal sanctuary on a three-hectare farm in Tanay, Rizal. The property is now home to around 70 rescued dogs and cats, while some of her rescues have already been adopted by new families.

Jona, whose full name is Jonalyn Viray, first gained recognition after winning the singing contest 'Pinoy Pop Superstar.' She later became the lead singer of the girl group La Diva before pursuing a solo career.

Her songs include “Maghihintay Ako,” “Help Me Get Over,” and “Ano Nga Ba Tayo.” Her cover of Jericho Rosales’ “Pusong Ligaw” and her revival of Basil Valdez’s “You” became popular.

Her song “Pusong Ligaw” served as the opening theme of the television series of the same name, while “You” became the official theme of the romance film “My Ex and Whys.”
