'God Gave Me You’ singer Bryan White recalls his special connection with ‘AlDub’

Memories of "AlDub" came rushing back after American country singer Bryan White shared a heartfelt message about Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza. Bryan recently posted a throwback photo from his 2015 “Eat Bulaga!” guest appearance.

“This is a great memory that just popped up in my feed. This was my second trip to the Philippines. I got to hang with Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza on the set of #eatbulaga. I owe them a lot,” White wrote.

The 52-year-old singer recalled how Alden and Maine helped introduce his song to a whole new generation of Filipino fans.

“They were huge fans of my song God Gave Me You and made it their theme song. The rest is history,” he added, along with the hashtags “#aldubnation” and “#aldubforever.”

White’s nostalgic post resonated with longtime AlDub fans, many of whom filled the comments section with memories of the "love team" and the song’s significance during AlDub's peak. AlDub is the name for the very popular on-screen pairing of Maine and Alden.

“This song will forever be an anthem for the AlDub community. I still fondly remember the days we'd stream it non-stop everywhere! It was a massive hit then, and it will always hold a really special place in all of our hearts,” one fan shared.

Other fans left comments such as “Awww my ALDUB heart” and “How can we forget?”

One fan jokingly wrote, “Pati si Bryan White di maka-move on sa Aldub,”  to which White replied, “Right?”

Known for his memorable country hits in the 1990s, including “God Gave Me You,” “Someone Else’s Star,” and “From This Moment On” with Shania Twain, White’s music reached more Filipino listeners when his ballad became an anthem for AlDub.

AlDub first appeared in 2015 through “Eat Bulaga!’s" unscripted “Kalyeserye” segment. The word AlDub is a portmanteau or combination of the pair's name: Alden and "Yaya Dub,"  Maine's  character in the skit.

Their digital romance unfolded through split-screen interactions, with Maine’s character rarely speaking and instead used lip-syncing popular love songs and movie lines as a unique way to connect with Alden. The unconventional approach became a cultural phenomenon that captured the attention of millions.

Alden and Maine's unexpected rise became a defining moment in Philippine pop culture and led to record-breaking online support. The AlDub fandom helped generate more than 40 million tweets in a single day during their highly anticipated “Sa Tamang Panahon” event, breaking Twitter records.

The AlDub love team officially ended in 2018 as Alden and Maine pursued individual career paths. Today, Maine is married to actor-politician Arjo Atayde and remains a host on “Eat Bulaga!,” while Alden continues with his successful acting career with GMA Network.
