Gelli de Belen is happy for niece Kaila Estrada, Daniel Padilla relationship

Gelli de Belen voiced her support for her niece Kaila Estrada and her boyfriend Daniel Padilla, saying she is glad the actor makes Kaila happy.

During the latest episode of Jeepney TV’s “Stars on Stars,” Gelli joined her sister and Kaila's mother Janice de Belen for a conversation that touched on the couple.

Janice brought up Gelli’s role as Betty in “La Luna Sangre,” where she played the aunt of Daniel’s character. “Anong feeling na halos nagkatotoo ‘yung role mo as Betty sa La Luna Sangre bilang tita ni Daniel?” Janice asked.

“Eh, tita naman niya talaga ako,” Gelli answered.

The conversation then turned to another connection between Gelli and Daniel. When Janice asked whether she was Daniel's godmother, Gelli revealed that she had only found out about it last year.

“Inaanak ko pala siya. Hindi ko alam. Nalaman ko lang last year nung sinabi sa akin ni Karla. ‘Ano ka ba? Inaanak mo yan eh.’ Inaanak ko pala si DJ. Hindi ko alam. I'm sorry. So ang dami kong utang,” Gelli said.

Gelli then jokingly hinted that there was more to Janice’s question before sharing her thoughts as Daniel’s aunt. “Bilang tiyahin ni DJ. Actually, wala naman akong magagawa dyan eh,” she quipped.

Gelli said she has always had a good relationship with Daniel.

“Syempre natutuwa naman ako kasi mabait naman sa akin si DJ. DJ's always been good to me. He's always treated me well. He's always been respectful of me. So, okay ako,” she said.

With Daniel, 31, now dating Kaila, 30, Gelli said she is happy for both of them.

“So syempre... with him being with Kaila now, I am happy for both of them. I am happy that he makes Kaila happy. And I'm hoping it stays that way,” she said.

At the same time, Gelli admitted that she remains cautious because of Daniel’s past. “Pero syempre parang I'm also careful because of all the past stuff,” she added.

Janice then asked, “So there's still reason to be wary?”

“Eh pero habang masaya sila, habang naliligayahan sila at maayos sila and they bring out the best in each other, ‘yun ang importante,” she said.

Kaila and Daniel’s relationship has continued to draw public attention since dating rumors about them surfaced late last year.

Janice, meanwhile, said the relationship did not come as a complete surprise to her. 

“Iyong naramdaman ko, wala naman kasi parang na-predict ko naman na may mga ganitong mangyayari,” she said.
