Francis Magalona’s enduring influence on Filipino music took center stage at the 2026 Filipino Music Awards, where the late rapper was posthumously honored with the Tribute Award on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The recognition came just two days after Magalona’s birthday on October 4. His wife, Pia Magalona, accepted the trophy with their daughter, actress Maxene Magalona. The award honors Francis M, also known as the “Master Rapper,” for his significant contributions to Filipino music and culture.
Pia expressed her gratitude to the individuals, labels, and groups Francis M worked and collaborated with throughout his career. She also dedicated the award to their children, who served as an inspiration for many of the songs he created.
Maxene also shared a heartfelt message during the acceptance, remembering her father and addressing his fans.
“Mabuhay ang OPM, at para ‘to sa lahat ng mga fans ni Francis M. Para sa inyo ‘to. At para sa ating lahat na miss na miss na si Francis M, kung nandito siya ngayon ang sasabihin niya, ‘Mga kababayan, araw-araw piliin ang kapayapaan.’”
Francis M’s influence was also felt in the night’s performances, with his son, Elmo Magalona, joining Parokya ni Edgar and Flow G for “Bagsakan.” The performance, which closed the ceremony, drew loud cheers from the crowd as they paid tribute to the late rapper.
Originally released by Parokya ni Edgar, “Bagsakan” features memorable rap verses from Francis M and OPM rap icon Gloc-9. The performance brought Francis M’s music back onstage, highlighting his lasting connection with artists and fans across generations.
Throughout his career, Francis M became known for hits such as “Mga Kababayan Ko,” "Mga Praning" and “Kaleidoscope World.” He also helped bridge rap and rock through collaborations with other bands, including Eraserheads.
This year’s FMAs also recognized several other major names in Filipino music. BINI was named Artist of the Year, while their “Signals” world tour won Tour of the Year.
Regine Velasquez-Alcasid received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while SB19 collected three major honors. Their “Wakas At Simula: The Trilogy Concert Finale” was named Concert of the Year, while the group also won People’s Choice Artist. Their single “VISA” took home People’s Choice Song.
Flow G and Skusta Clee’s “Since Day One” also won two awards, taking both Song of the Year and Hip-Hop Song of the Year.
