Fil-Am actor Brandon Perea stars in newest ‘Insidious’ film

Filipino-American actor Brandon Perea joins the “Insidious” franchise in its latest installment, “Insidious: Out of the Further,” where he stars alongside Amelia Eve, Sam Spruell, and returning original cast member Lin Shaye.

Perea recently shared his excitement about the film in an Instagram post, writing, “As a fan of this franchise, I’m so damn proud of this movie.” He also shared photos with co-stars Eve and Shaye, director Jacob Chase, as well as several behind-the-scenes snaps.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Perea has a Puerto Rican father and a Filipino mother. He proudly represents both sides of his heritage on Instagram, where his bio features the Philippine and Puerto Rican flags.

The 31-year-old is best known for his roles as French in the Netflix series “The OA” and Angel Torres in Jordan Peele’s sci-fi horror film “Nope.”

In November 2023, he received the Rising Star Award for Film at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television for his breakout performance in “Nope.” He was also selected as an honoree for the BAFTA Breakthrough USA program in 2022.

In “Insidious: Out of the Further,” the story follows Gemma (Amelia Eve), a young single mother who discovers she can travel into the Further while raising her daughter in her childhood home. She soon unlocks a dangerous new ability where she can physically pull entities and demons from the purgatorial realm into the real world. Perea plays Nick, the male lead and Gemma’s boyfriend.

“Insidious: Out of the Further” is now showing in Philippine cinemas, with its US premiere scheduled for August 21.
