Donald Glover is Yoshi in ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’

The beloved green dinosaur of the Mushroom Kingdom finally has a voice.

American actor, musician and filmmaker Donald Glover will voice Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).

The announcement was made last Monday during the Nintendo Direct livestream on YouTube. It was held ahead of Mario Day (March 10)  and followed the release of the film’s final trailer.

“Since he appeared in our recent trailer, many of you have wondered who's voicing the character. I'm excited to share with you today that the voice of Yoshi is Donald Glover,” Chris Meledandri said, ending fan speculation.

American film producer and Illumination CEO also described Glover, 42,  as a talented actor and revealed that he is a “Nintendo super fan.”

Meledandri, 66, also announced the newest voice cast, including Puerto Rican actor Luis Guzmán as Wart and American comedian-actress and writer Issa Rae as Honey Queen, joining returning stars Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi.

Other returning voice actors include The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Earlier, GamesRadar+ reported that additions to the upcoming installment, Brie Larson and Benny Safdie, will voice Princess Rosalina and Bowser Jr.

Meanwhile, Shigeru Miyamoto, the primary creator of Super Mario and executive at Nintendo, introduced  a smart device app for fans, which will offer digital collectibles — cards and wallpapers — based on the film.

The final trailer shows the full Mushroom Kingdom cast and hints at the adventures to come when the movie hits theaters on April 1.
