Cosplayer Prince De Guzman recalls meeting ‘Insidious’ inspiration Lin Shaye

Cosplayer and content creator Prince De Guzman recently shared throwback photos with “Insidious” star Lin Shaye, along with a heartfelt message expressing his longtime admiration for the actress.

“I will never get tired of saying that you are my inspiration for almost 2 decades now. You are such a sweet angel and I will always remember this day. Love you from the bottom of my heart, Lin Shaye. I am so happy and proud of this era of yours.”

Shaye responded to Prince’s post with a heart GIF, adding a sweet exchange to his tribute to the actress.

Prince’s admiration for Shaye is closely tied to his own history with the “Insidious” franchise, which he has celebrated through some of his most elaborate character transformations.

In collaboration with Columbia Pictures Philippines, the 30-year-old previously transformed into the Lipstick-Face Demon for “Insidious: The Red Door,” bringing the iconic entity to life during promotional theater raids and special fan interactions.

His connection to the franchise continued with his latest portrayal of Cyrus Lam, also known as the King of the Further, the terrifying new primary demon introduced in “Insidious: Out of the Further.”

For the film’s latest cinema release in the Philippines, Prince worked directly with the local theatrical distributor to create the complete SFX makeup and costume from scratch. 

The finished look features a regal red robe, long hair, and heavily textured demonic facial prosthetics modeled after the character’s appearance in the film. Prince also shared short teasers of the demanding application process on social media.

He later brought the character to SM Cinema theaters, where he surprised unsuspecting moviegoers in full Cyrus makeup during advance and midnight screenings.

Cyrus Lam is just the latest character Prince has recreated. His past transformations include the Bride in Black from  previous “Insidious" and Valak from “The Nun,” with his appearances as the demonic nun at advance cinema screenings catching the attention of moviegoers.

Another standout is his Pennywise the Dancing Clown transformation from “IT.” His hyper-realistic take on the character, combined with public pranks inside movie theaters, became some of his most-viewed content.

But Prince’s cosplay work goes far beyond horror. His repertoire includes He-Man from “Masters of the Universe,” Lobo from “Supergirl,” Roronoa Zoro from “One Piece,” Datu Talagbusao from Netflix’s “Trese,” Vecna from “Stranger Things” and many more characters from animated, superhero, and live-action films, television series, and other popular productions.
