Filipino acts BINI, SB19 and Ben&Ben are taking a shot at history after they submitted entries to the 2027 Grammy Awards. Their entries span Best New Artist, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and the newly introduced Best Asian Pop Music Performance category among others.
BINI submitted entries for Best New Artist, Best Asian Pop Music Performance for “Unang Kilig,” and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “A Parallel World,” a track from the animated film “Forgotten Island.”
Star Music, BINI's label, announced the entries on Monday, October 12, as they encouraged fans to continue supporting BINI and Filipino talent.
SB19 followed with its own entries the next day, submitting “Lawless” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and “Visa” for Best Asian Pop Music Performance.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the group and its management company, 1Z Entertainment, thanked fans for their continued support.
“From the Philippines to the world, thank you for believing in SB19. Let’s continue to champion Filipino music and bring it to the global stage!” the group said.
Both BINI and SB19 have submitted entries to the new category Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which was announced amidst controversy in June.
While the category creates a dedicated space for Asian pop, its introduction has triggered debate in the music industry and beyond. Some critics and fans worry that separating music by region or language may exclude artists instead of having a more inclusive awards-giving body.
K-pop supergroup BTS, for instance, boycotted the 2027 Grammys as a sign of protest on the new Asian category.
“We have decided not to enter the Grammys this year. I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language,” the group said in its statement.
Beyond their Grammy submissions, BINI and SB19 have also brought their music to the Grammy Museum in the United States where BINI performed in April their songs “Blush,” “Unang Kilig,” and “Cherry on Top.” SB19 then took the stage in July with “Gento” and “Wakas.”
Both groups also participated in interactive question-and-answer sessions and career discussions hosted by moderator Emily Mei, sharing insights into their music and experiences.
Ben&Ben is also joining the Grammy bandwagon, submitting “Leaves (Reimagined)” for consideration in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.
The track revisits “Leaves,” the band's 2016 song featured on its self-titled extended play. The band shared the news and thanked its fans, whom it calls Liwanag
“Suntok sa buwan, imposibleng pangarap, pero susubok pa rin! Salamat sa paglipad kasama namin, Liwanag,” Ben&Ben said.
Since forming in 2016, the band has built a loyal following in the Philippines and abroad with songs such as “Kathang Isip,” “Pagtingin,” “Lifetime,” and “Sa Susunod na Habang Buhay.”
The three acts' entries have prompted fans to share messages of support and pride, with many celebrating the prospect of Filipino music gaining wider recognition and exposure.
“Nakakaproud naman talaga mga Pinoy. Deserve natin global stage!!” one fan wrote.
Another commented, “Sino man manalo sa tatlong nagpasa malaking karangalan na yun sa bansa.”
Another added, “Let's show the world the artistic excellence of OPM.”
While the entries have generated excitement, they remain submissions for Grammy consideration and do not guarantee official nominations.
The first round of voting runs from October 12 to 22 to determine the nominees across 100 categories.
Nominees for the 69th Annual Grammy Awards will be announced on November 16, months ahead of the ceremony on February 7, 2027, in Los Angeles, California.
