The Swiss-French land artist Saype is bringing his famed "Beyond Walls" project to the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco, California.
The 37-year-old artist began sketching the interlaced hands and arms on the grass of the garden on Monday (October 5) in the heart of the city's downtown area.
Its debut in San Francisco marks the project's 23rd city, having first appeared in Paris in 2019 and visiting Andorra, Geneva, Berlin, Cape Town, Dubai and more in the years since.
Saype originally planned for the project to last three years but found inspiration to continue from the people he met along the way as well as the deepening polarization in the world.
The San Francisco project will culminate with a public joining of hands on Wednesday (October 7) afternoon once he's done with the art piece.
Each of Saype's pieces in the project differs slightly in size, skin complexion, and features such as jewelry or tattoos but the overall theme remains the same: two interlaced arms painted with biodegradable paint on grass, sand or rocks.
