Anne Curtis calmly responded to a netizen on social media who accused her of being “retokada” and even brought her daughter, Dahlia, into the conversation.
The actress, model, and “It’s Showtime” host addressed an X user who shared a close-up photo of Anne from the recent Preview Ball and wrote, “Retokada yarn? Exhibit A – anak,” in a post that has since been deleted. The netizen appeared to compare Dahlia’s looks to Anne’s. Dahlia is Anne’s daughter with her husband, Filipino-French content creator Erwan Heussaff.
Rather than engage in an angry exchange, Anne simply dismissed the accusation.
“Can proudly say I’m not retokada at all and for me, for me lang naman, my daughter and I are both beautiful,” Anne wrote.
She added, “I usually don’t give people like you the time of the day but wala lang.”
Anne rarely responds to people who criticize her online, but this time, she chose to respond with kindness.
“I don’t know who hurt you or why you’re so angry with me but nonetheless sending you some kindness maybe you [need] some in your life. Big virtual hug I mean that, sincerely. Good night!”
The exchange also prompted fans and other netizens to come to Anne’s defense.
One commenter pointed out that Anne has always been beautiful, even as a child: “Millennials know how pretty @annecurtissmith is kahit nung bata pa siya. Child actress siya at may mga movies siya nung bata pa siya.”
Another wrote, “People seriously invest a lot of time in hating public figures. Imagine making fun of Anne Curtis' appearance, as if she is called Dyosa for nothing.”
Others focused on Dahlia, with one netizen urging people not to involve the child in the negativity: “Choose to be kind. Anne is a beautiful person and also please spare the kid from negative mindset.”
Another supporter praised Anne for how she handled the situation, saying, “Thank you for always being the bigger person, Ate! The world truly needs more people like you. We love and support you, Dahlia, and your whole family so, so much!”
Anne has long been known by the nickname “Dyosa,” which came from her role as the titular deity in the 2008 fantasy series “Dyosa.” Although the show ended in 2009, the nickname stuck and remains widely used by fans and media in reference to her looks and enduring presence in Philippine entertainment.
Her beauty has also received recognition internationally. In 2017, Anne was the only Filipina included in Buzznet’s Top 30 Most Beautiful Women of 2017, where she ranked No. 26.
