Angeline Quinto never expected that her simple dream of becoming a singer would lead to 15 years in showbiz. As she marks the milestone with an anniversary concert, she looks back on her career, challenges, and experiences that shaped her journey.
In a recent episode of “Toni Talks” with Toni Gonzaga, Angeline shared that what she loves most aside from her family is her 15 years in the industry.
“Kasi, kahit dati na wala pa akong sariling pamilya, nung nandito pa ang mama Bob, ang trabaho ko talaga ang nagbigay ng magandang buhay. Iyan kasi iyong tumulong sa akin para matupad iyon eh.”
For Angeline, having a career was never about being in showbiz. Her dream was much simpler, which was to have a stable job that would give her a monthly salary and allow her to support her mother as she grew older.
“Basta sa pagkanta. At hindi ko naman din talaga inasahan na ganito kalaki iyong maibabalik sa akin after ng pagkapanalo ko sa Star Power.”
Angeline also recalled that her mother once hoped she would become a flight attendant, even joking that her height might be the only thing standing in the way.
“Kasi ‘pag ganon ang naging trabaho mo, makakapunta ka sa iba't ibang bansa na hindi ka na nagbabayad,” she recalled her late mother telling her.
In a way, Angeline ended up getting the same opportunity through her music career. “Tapos ayun, nung nagkaroon ako ng trabaho sa pagkanta ko din, dinala din ako sa iba't ibang bansa na hindi ako nagbabayad. Lahat libre. Pagkain ko, hotel ko tapos nakakaipon pa ako. Napakalaking bagay nun.”
But while her career has given her many things to be grateful for, it has also come with difficult moments. One of the things the singer-actress has struggled with most is dealing with bashing.
“Iyong mga bashing, syempre. Wala namang gustong ma-bash, ‘di ba?”
The 36-year-old said she has learned to let criticism about her work pass, but it becomes harder when her family gets involved. Still, over the years, she has learned that she does not have to answer every negative comment.
“Pero doon ko din talaga natutunan na hindi lahat ng pangba-bash sa akin, eh, kailangan kong sagutin.”
She sees her upcoming 15th anniversary concert with a similar lens. For Angeline, the concert is not just a celebration of her career but a chance to tell the story of a girl who kept holding on to her dream despite the challenges.
“Ito kasing concert ko na ito, ate, very personal itong concert na ito sa akin. Kasi ito talaga iyong istorya ko.”
At the heart of that story are the people who stuck with her through thick and thin. Angeline wants the concert to reconnect her with the fans who have supported her from the beginning and remind them of the artist they have grown to love.
“Alam ko na, andyan pa rin iyong mga taong sumusuporta at nagmamahal sa akin.”
As part of that celebration, Angeline is bringing along some familiar faces, including actor and television host Enchong Dee.
“Ate, hindi pwedeng mawala si Enchong Dee. Alam mo naman iyan ang myloves ko.”
Angeline and Enchong worked together in the 2013 blockbuster “Four Sisters and a Wedding” where she played Princess Antoinette Mae Bayag, the quirky and loyal fiancée of Enchong’s character, CJ Salazar. Their history together makes his appearance even more fitting.
It is still unclear though if Enchong will sing. When Toni asked if he would perform, Angeline simply replied, “Kung gusto niya.”
As for Angeline, she said she is willing to go all out for the anniversary show, including dancing with her guests.
Aside from Enchong, her guests include Erik Santos, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Martin Nievera, Skusta Clee, Baby Dolls, and Divine Divas.
Throughout her career, Angeline has experienced major highs and lows in her personal life. She lost her adoptive mother but later built a family of her own, becoming a wife and mother to two children. She also recently graduated from college.
Aquinse, Angeline's 15th anniversary concert, will be on August 22, 2026 at the Araneta Colliseum.
