Alden Richards returns as Dr. Jose Rizal in 'Liwanag at Dilim'

Alden Richards is bringing his acclaimed portrayal of Dr. Jose Rizal to a new project as he joins “Liwanag at Dilim: Heneral Emilio Jacinto.”

Asia’s Multimedia Star will portray the national hero in a special appearance for the film, which centers on the life of Emilio Jacinto, known as the “Brains of the Katipunan” and the author of the “Kartilya ng Katipunan,” the moral guide and code of conduct for Katipunan members.

Actor and 'Pinoy Pop Superstar Season 2' Grand Champion Gerald Santos, who plays the titular role of Emilio Jacinto, confirmed Alden’s involvement in the historical project through a social media post.

“So happy to announce that Alden Richards is part of my movie LIWANAG AT DILIM: (Heneral Emilio Jacinto) as Dr. Jose Rizal! Thank you bro for being part of this monumental film!” Gerald wrote.

According to Gerald, the production is already in its fourth week of filming, and he also shared behind-the-scenes photos from the set.

Fans of both actors expressed their excitement over Alden, 34, and Gerald, 35, finally sharing the screen, with many looking forward to their first movie collaboration. Some comments included, “Finally! Nagkasama din po kayo, both pogi at mabait at talented yarn,” and “Natupad din ang wish ko magkasama kayo sa isang movie project ni Sir @aldenrichards02.”

Alden’s return as Jose Rizal also brings him back to a role he previously portrayed in GMA’s 2014 period drama series “Ilustrado.” His acclaimed performance in the series earned him a Best Actor award.

Joining Alden and Gerald in the cast are Aljur Abrenica, Aicelle Santos, Nikko Natividad, Alex Medina, Alexa Miro, Ima Castro, Sid Lucero and Angel Aquino. “Liwanag at Dilim: Heneral Emilio Jacinto” is written and directed by Dr. Antonino Rommel Ramilo. 

Currently, Alden Richards stars in the romantic comedy series “Love, Siargao" alongside Nadine Lustre. He is also set to star in the upcoming medical drama series “Code Gray.”
