Aiko Melendez explains why she wears her work ID

Actress and incumbent Quezon City Councilor Aiko Melendez underscored the significance of wearing an office ID, saying the practice serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with public service.

In a post on her social media platforms, Melendez said public service should not be about titles, privileges, or receiving special treatment. She said public officials should remain grounded, follow rules, and lead by example.

“Ang pagsusuot ng ID sa trabaho ay maaaring simpleng bagay lang para sa iba, pero para sa akin, simbolo ito ng pagpapakumbaba, disiplina, at respeto sa opisinang pinaglilingkuran natin,” she said.

The 50-year-old stressed that no one in public service is above workplace rules, regardless of position or title.

“Hindi rin dapat maging dahilan ang ating titulo para isipin nating hindi na natin kailangang sumunod sa mga patakaran,” she said, adding that leaders should also follow the same rules they expect from their employees and staff.

She said wearing an ID serves as a reminder that public officials are part of an institution with responsibilities and that their positions are only temporary. What truly matters, she added, is the respect they earn, the example they set, and the quality of service they provide to the people.

“Kaya proud akong magsuot ng ID. Hindi dahil kailangan malaman ng lahat kung sino ako, kundi dahil nirerespeto ko ang opisinang aking kinabibilangan at ang mga taong aking pinaglilingkuran,” Melendez said.

She ended her message by reminding fellow officials: “Manatiling mapagkumbaba. Sumunod sa patakaran. Maging magandang halimbawa. Dahil ang tunay na public service ay nagsisimula sa respeto at pagpapakumbaba.”
