Acclaimed director Jose Javier Reyes to give keynote address at Macao audiovisual fest

 Acclaimed Filipino director Jose Javier Reyes will give the keynote address at the inaugural Macao International Audio-Visual Festival (MIAVF). He will represent The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) as its chairman and CEO.

The festival runs from June 1 to 3 at Wynn Macau, as reported by The Macau Post Daily. The FDCP said that MIAVF will feature digital and streaming content on June 2.

As part of the event, Reyes will speak at the “Southeast Asia Broadcasting and Audiovisual Industry Cooperation Forum,” which focuses on current industry trends, innovation, and market expansion across the region.

Over the three-day event, the event includes audiovisual showcases, an international micro-series gala, short-video competitions, industry forums, influencer award ceremonies, and business matching and promotion sessions.

The international festival also features media from ASEAN countries and Portuguese-speaking nations, aiming to strengthen cultural exchange and collaboration. Macau was a former Portuguese colony before its return to China in 1999. 

FDCP is the government agency responsible for promoting and developing the Philippine film industry. It is mandated to support film production, distribution, and education, as well as to preserve the country’s film heritage.

According to the FDCP, its participation in networking activities and project showcases during MIAVF’s first edition is intended to open more opportunities for Filipino talent in the global media landscape.

Reyes, an acclaimed filmmaker and educator, was appointed in April 2024 to the FDCP. His films include  “Bakit May Kahapon Pa?,” “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” and “Batang PX,” and for writing notable screenplays including “Oro, Plata, Mata,” “May Minamahal,” and “Mano Po Legacy.”
