US will make 'a lot of money for Venezuela', Trump says after Davos speech

U.S. President Donald Trump told journalists that Venezuela's new leader Delcy Rodriguez was doing "a very good job" after he made a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday (January 21).

Speaking to journalists outside the auditorium, Trump said: "Venezuela is working out really well, and we're going to be making a lot of money for Venezuela and they'll be able to take care of their people."

Trump spoke for more than hour in the closely-watched economic speech that has been overshadowed by fraying transatlantic ties and tensions with Europe over his push to acquire Greenland.

Trump ordered U.S. forces to fly into Venezuela to grab President Nicolas Maduro and his wife in a daring overnight raid on January 3.

Since then, Trump has said the U.S. planed to control Venezuela's oil resources indefinitely as it seeks to rebuild the country's dilapidated oil industry in a $100 billion plan.
