Japanese and Australian foreign ministers discuss energy supply chain in Tokyo

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi met his Australian counterpart Penny Wong in Tokyo on Tuesday (April 28) as stalled Iran-U.S. peace talks continue to weigh on energy supply chains in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ties between Australia and Japan will play a key role as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed to sea traffic, Wong said.

The foreign ministers' meeting comes ahead of a visit by Japanese leader Sanae Takaichi to Canberra next week.

Australia, which imports most of its fuel, has experienced localised shortages during the Middle East conflict, which began in February.
