Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian says the Senate impasse is over and that members of the chamber are happy to be back at work.

In his first press conference after being elected Senate President, Gatchalian lauded his fellow lawmakers who attended the special session called by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., held on Wednesday, June 18.

He also vowed that the Senate will continue to discuss priority legislation and that the chamber will not be remiss in its duty to prepare for the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

"Back to work na tayo," he said.

He laid out a “back to work” agenda, urging colleagues to fast‑track priority bills and prepare for the upcoming impeachment trial.

Gatchalian said the chamber will focus on measures identified by the Legislative‑Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) along with proposals from individual senators.

The senator said that he has already reached out to various members on the floor, including Sens. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” T. Go, Imee Marcos, Loren Legarda, and Pia Cayetano, to discuss their priority measures and set a collective direction for the Senate's work.

“Una sa lahat, sasabihin ko na tapos na ang SenateFlix. Back to work na tayo. In the next few weeks ay ilalatag na namin yung mga LEDAC (Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council) bills na dapat matapos. Ilalatag na rin namin yung mga preparations natin for the impeachment on July 6,” he said.
