The Senate's Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) on Tuesday convened a Security Coordinating Conference with key government agencies as part of preparations for the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The conference brought together representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), intelligence and law enforcement agencies, local government units, emergency response organizations, and other partner institutions to discuss security and operational measures for the proceedings.
According to the Senate, the meeting focused on security, public safety, traffic management, emergency preparedness, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the orderly conduct of the impeachment trial.
Among those expected to attend were Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr., House of Representatives Sergeant-at-Arms Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Melchor Dela Cruz (Ret.), and senior officials from participating agencies.
Senate Sergeant-at-Arms PMGen. Alfred Corpus (Ret.) said the conference aimed to establish a common operational understanding among concerned agencies and strengthen coordination ahead of the trial.
"The successful conduct of the impeachment proceedings requires the collective effort and close coordination of all concerned agencies. Through this conference, we hope to further strengthen our partnerships and ensure that the necessary security and safety measures are in place to support this important constitutional process," Corpus said.
Corpus said the discussions included information sharing, contingency planning, and communication mechanisms among participating agencies.
The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms also underscored the role of partner agencies in maintaining public order, providing intelligence support, managing traffic and crowd control, and ensuring readiness for emergencies that may arise during the proceedings.
The security conference forms part of the Senate's broader preparations for the impeachment trial, which is expected to draw heightened public attention and significant participation from government institutions and stakeholders.
The Senate said the measures are intended to ensure that the proceedings are conducted in a safe, orderly, and secure environment in accordance with the rule of law and democratic processes.
