Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Guyana’s U.N. ambassador and former foreign minister, is seeking to become the first woman to serve as United Nations secretary-general when António Guterres' term ends in 2026. Formally nominated by Guyana in June, her bid has been endorsed by the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM), strengthening regional support for her campaign to lead the United Nations.
