Veronica Pulumbarit

For Veronica Velarde-Pulumbarit, Managing Editor of Paraluman News, her journey into journalism began at age seven, inspired by the comic strip "Brenda Starr, Reporter." 

 

The Brenda Starr character was first created in 1940 by newspaper cartoonist Dalia Messick, who used the pseudonym "Dale Messick" to navigate the male-dominated news industry at that time. The comic strip ran until 2011 and tackled everything from romance, single parenthood, conspiracies, and the abduction and killing of journalists.

 

Brenda Starr’s mission to search for the truth as a journalist resonated deeply with Veronica, whose parents told her that her name stems from the Latin word “vero,” meaning "truth.""

 

Veronica earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1991. Since then, she has gained extensive experience across newspapers, magazines, international news services, and online media. In 2017, she was recognized as one of the "100 Fearless Filipinas" for her work as a journalist.

 

Veronica is passionate about the nobility of the profession and consistently reminds the Paraluman News team to share every story with care and respect. A dedicated lifelong learner, she has also completed specializations in Graphic Design from the California Institute of the Arts and Contemporary and Modern Art from the Museum of Modern Art.
