Supreme Court Associate Justice: Digital spaces must be consistent with dignity of judicial office

Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh reminded judges that they are the "visible embodiments of justice" who must uphold the highest standards of conduct both offline and online.

Singh made the statement during a dialogue with Negros Occidental Judges at the Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, on March 4, 2026.

According to a press statement of the SC, Singh said judges must exercise caution in expressing views on matters that may affect pending or potential cases or diminish public confidence in the impartiality of the courts.

Singh further emphasized that members of the Judiciary — judges and court personnel alike, do not shed their ethical obligations when they engage in online platforms.

She reminded them that their conduct in digital spaces must remain consistent with the dignity of judicial office and the standards expected of the courts.

The dialogue,  moderated by Presiding Judge Dyna Doll Chiongson-Trocio, Branch 40, Regional Trial Court, Silay City, brought together 43 judges from courts across the province.

During the event, Singh delivered a lecture on select provisions of A.M. No. 25-04-04-SC, or the 2025 Code of Judicial Conduct and Accountability (CJCA). She emphasized Canon IV on Propriety and the responsible use of social

media by members of the judiciary/

The dialogue also addressed several operational and administrative concerns raised by the participating judges, including the implementation of electronic court systems such as the Judiciary Electronic Payment Solutions (JePS) and Scriptix, among other issues.
