Senator Camille Villar pushes for clean and renewable energy initiatives

Senator Camille Villar reiterated her support for circular and renewable energy initiatives during the recent launch of Nestlé Philippines' biomass facility in Cabuyao, Laguna.

Villar, the youngest member of the 20th Congress at 41 years old, is the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.

At the recent launch, Villar emphasized the urgency of shifting toward sustainable energy systems, particularly amid global uncertainties and climate-related challenges.

“In a time of global uncertainty and climate urgency, the way we produce our energy and sustain our food systems will define the strength and future of our nation,” Villar said.

She emphasized that sustainable energy solutions are urgently needed, particularly as fuel supply and availability remain uncertain and vulnerable.

She lauded lauded Nestlé Philippines for their investment in technology that converts agricultural waste into clean energy.

She noted that these efforts help reduce reliance on fossil fuels while creating new income streams for farmers by transforming agricultural residues into valuable resources.

She added that this approach demonstrates a more inclusive and localized path toward sustainability in the country.

The senator also spoke about the necessity of strengthening policies that promote resource efficiency and the adoption of renewable energy.

She explained that these measures are vital for building a climate-resilient economy, particularly as we face increasing environmental and energy-related risks.

“As legislators and partners in nation-building, our role is to ensure that initiatives like this are supported, scaled, and sustained,” Villar added.

Meanwhile, she also expressed full support for private sector-led innovations that align with national sustainability goals.

She hoped that this facility will inspire further investment in clean energy and that more industries would follow this lead and become part of the solution.

The biomass facility is central to Nestlé Philippines’ long-term commitment to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. This initiative supports the country’s transition toward a more sustainable and energy-secure future.
