Taylor Fritz advanced to the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the fourth time in five years after defeating Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik in straight sets on Monday, strengthening his bid for a maiden Grand Slam title.
The sixth-seeded American prevailed 7-6(1), 6-4, 6-4 on Court One, taking control after a tightly contested opening-set tiebreak before producing a composed and efficient performance in the final two sets.
With the victory, Fritz became the 10th American man to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals at least four times, joining a distinguished group that includes Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors, and John McEnroe.
Despite his consistent success at the All England Club, Fritz is still seeking his first Grand Slam championship. His best result at a major came at the 2024 U.S. Open, where he finished runner-up after losing to Jannik Sinner in the final.
Fritz will next face either second-seeded Alexander Zverev or Jiri Lehecka for a place in the Wimbledon semifinals. -Reporting by Martyn Herman; Editing by Alison Williams/Reuters
