LONDON — Czech ninth seed Linda Noskova reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinal after defeating American Madison Keys, 6-4, 7-6(2), on Monday at the All England Club.
The 21-year-old continued the Czech Republic's strong tradition at Wimbledon, following in the footsteps of champions Petra Kvitova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Barbora Krejcikova.
Noskova showed composure throughout the opening set, saving both break points she faced before breaking Keys in the 10th game to take the set, 6-4.
Playing on Court One under hot conditions, Keys, the 2025 Australian Open champion, struggled to replicate the form that helped her defeat 2025 Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova in the previous round.
Noskova appeared in control after taking a 3-0 lead in the second set, but her serve faltered as she committed four double faults and surrendered a break in the fifth game. Keys capitalized to level the set at 3-3 and eventually forced a tiebreak.
The Czech regained her composure in the tiebreak and sealed the victory with a drop-shot winner on her first match point.
Noskova will face Belgium's 25th-seeded Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals. She joins fellow Czech Karolina Muchova in the last eight as the Czech Republic seeks its third Wimbledon women's singles title in four years.
The loss ended Keys' eight-match grass-court winning streak, which included her title run at Eastbourne last month. -Reporting by Pritha Sarkar; Editing by Alison Williams/Reuters
