LONDON — Cruz Hewitt is setting his sights on reaching the men's main draw of the Australian Open after finishing runner-up in the Wimbledon boys' singles final on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Australian, son of former world No. 1 and 2002 Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt, lost 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to American Jordan Lee at the All England Club.

Hewitt was aiming to become the first Australian to win the Wimbledon boys' singles title since Luke Saville in 2011. Despite the loss, he said he was proud of his performance throughout the tournament.

"I feel like I played some really good tennis, and it was just a great battle today. Jordan played better and deserved to win," Hewitt said.

"I am feeling very disappointed, but I am proud of my effort to make the final. Obviously, I grew up around this tournament, and I have seen my dad play here. It's been a privilege to play here."

Looking ahead, Hewitt said his next major objective is to earn a place in the men's singles main draw at the Australian Open.

"That is the dream," he said. "That is a big goal of mine. I look forward to coming back here at Wimbledon in the future for the men's tournament." -Reporting by Aadi Nair in BengaluruEditing by Shri Navaratnam/Reuters
