Sweet music: Nashville officially named host of 2030 Super Bowl

The honky-tonks of Nashville are expected to be packed when the city hosts Super Bowl LXIV in February 2030 after NFL owners officially approved Tennessee’s capital as the site of the league’s championship game.

The game will be played at the Tennessee Titans’ new Nissan Stadium, which is currently under construction along the Cumberland River. It will mark the first time Nashville has hosted a Super Bowl.

The decision was approved Tuesday during the NFL Spring League Meeting in Orlando, Florida, with full ownership representation participating in the vote.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell praised Nashville’s strong support during the 2019 NFL Draft, which drew record-breaking crowds at the time.

“The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” Goodell said in a statement. “Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey. We can’t wait to put on an unforgettable show in 2030.”

The new Nissan Stadium is a fully enclosed, 60,000-seat venue with a reported cost of $2.1 billion. The stadium will feature a cable-net ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof and is expected to open by February 2027.

Tennessee Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk described the announcement as a major milestone for both the city and the state.

“This is an exciting moment for our city and our entire state,” Strunk said. “We cannot wait for our community to experience an event of this magnitude and for the world to see the energy, hospitality, and culture that make our city so special on a global stage.”

Known as “Music City,” Nashville is widely recognized for its country music heritage, making a country-themed halftime show a likely possibility. The city is home to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Grand Ole Opry, while its downtown entertainment district is filled with live music venues and bars.

Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. president and CEO Deana Ivey said the event will highlight the city’s culture and hospitality on a global stage.

“This event is an incredible opportunity to showcase the dynamic and creative character that is distinctly Music City, where music, sports, culture, and hospitality come together in a way few cities can match,” Ivey said.

Cities with newly built stadiums have increasingly become contenders for hosting the Super Bowl in recent years. Detroit, East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Minneapolis have all hosted the event despite traditionally colder climates.

The NFL has already announced future Super Bowl locations, with SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles set to host the game in 2027, Atlanta scheduled for 2028, and Las Vegas selected for 2029 at Allegiant Stadium. -Field Level Media/Reuters
