LONDON – Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League woes deepened on Tuesday as they suffered another home defeat, falling 2-1 to Newcastle United and leaving manager Thomas Frank’s future increasingly uncertain.
Last season's Europa League winners, who also qualified for this season's Champions League last-16, were booed off the pitch after Jacob Ramsey’s late goal secured a rare away win for Eddie Howe's side. Tottenham remain only five points above the relegation zone, with Nottingham Forest and West Ham showing improved form.
The defeat continued Tottenham’s poor home record. They have won only two of 13 league games at home this season and have not tasted a Premier League victory since December 28. Their next match is a daunting north London derby against leaders Arsenal.
Frank Responds to Fan Pressure
Chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" greeted Frank as he left the pitch. The Danish manager acknowledged the fans’ frustration but vowed to work to improve results. "I understand the frustration and the easiest thing is to point at me," Frank said. "I will work day and night to turn this around, but it is not just one person. There is no doubt we need to improve and I need to be part of that."
Match Highlights
Newcastle dominated the first half, but it took until stoppage time for Malick Thiaw to score, putting the visitors ahead. Tottenham improved after the break, with Archie Gray leveling the score, but Anthony Gordon set up Ramsey for the winning goal, his first since moving from Aston Villa.
Newcastle climbed to 10th with 36 points, while Tottenham remain in 16th with 29 points from 26 games. West Ham are on 24 points, and Nottingham Forest have 26 from 25 matches.
Other Premier League Results
Manchester United salvaged a late 1-1 draw against West Ham thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s stoppage-time equalizer. West Ham had led through Tomas Soucek’s early second-half goal and were seconds away from a fourth win in five league games. Caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s unbeaten start ended with the draw.
Chelsea also dropped points at Stamford Bridge, drawing 2-2 with Leeds United after leading 2-0. Goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer gave Chelsea an early advantage, but a penalty from Lukas Nmecha and a late strike by Noah Okafor allowed Leeds to earn a point, moving them above Tottenham into 15th place.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior emphasized the need for focus. "If we want to improve and get to where we want to be, we have to make sure we're switched on for 90 minutes. It's as simple as that," he said.
Bournemouth secured a 2-1 win at Everton after coming from behind, with goals from Rayan and Amine Adli overturning Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half penalty. Everton finished with 10 men following Jake O'Brien’s red card.
