NEWCASTLE, England – William Osula came off the bench to score a dramatic late winner as 10-man Newcastle United stunned Manchester United 2-1 in the Premier League on Wednesday, ending Michael Carrick's unbeaten run as interim manager.

Newcastle, forced to play the entire second half a man down, pulled off the shock with a brilliant solo goal in the dying moments of the match.

The loss leaves Manchester United nine points behind second-placed Manchester City, who were held 2-2 at home by struggling Nottingham Forest, and level on 51 points with Aston Villa.

The game turned during a chaotic 10 minutes of first-half stoppage time. Jacob Ramsey was sent off for a second yellow card after the referee ruled he had dived, with the clock at 45+1. Five minutes later, Anthony Gordon won a penalty following a clash with United captain Bruno Fernandes and converted it to put Newcastle 1-0 up, marking his ninth successful spot kick of the season.

Before halftime, Fernandes delivered a set piece that found Casemiro, who headed in the equalizer at 45+9.

Despite having a numerical advantage in the second half, Manchester United struggled to dominate, often looking like the side with 10 men, while Newcastle relentlessly pushed for the winner. -Reporting by Alan Baldwin, editing by Toby Davis/Reuters
