Former Chelsea and Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has signed with Dutch club Feyenoord until the end of the season, the club announced on Thursday.

Sterling, who moved to Chelsea from Manchester City in a £50 million ($68.07 million) deal in July 2022, left Stamford Bridge last month after being sidelined from the squad.

"As a free agent, I've had, for the first time in a long time, the opportunity to control the next step," Sterling said in a statement. "I wanted to take my time to speak with clubs and their head coaches to better understand the role they envisioned for me and ensure that I can add real value in this next chapter."

Currently, Feyenoord sit second in the Dutch league, 17 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven. The club will face Go Ahead Eagles this Sunday.

Manager Robin van Persie expressed confidence in Sterling’s impact. "His football resume speaks for itself: he's a player whose qualities can change the outcome of a game without a doubt, and I am convinced he will turn out to be a valuable addition to the team as we work towards achieving our goals in the second half of this season," he said. -Reporting by Karan Prashant Saxena in Bengaluru; Editing by Peter Rutherford/Reuters
