In a tightly contested match on Wednesday, the Colorado Rapids delivered one of their best defensive performances of the season, holding Los Angeles FC to a 0-0 draw. The tie extended LAFC's struggles in front of goal, with the team now winless in their past three MLS games.
The Rapids (4-4-1, 13 points) have allowed 15 goals this season, ranking among the top defensive teams in the Western Conference. Wednesday’s clean sheet marked their second shutout of the season, as goalkeeper Zack Steffen made one crucial save to preserve the draw. Colorado’s defense had struggled in recent games, conceding a combined seven goals in their previous three matches, but this result provided a much-needed boost.
Despite dominating possession with 71.3% of the ball, Colorado could not capitalize on their control, managing only five shots on target. LAFC's defense, led by Hugo Lloris, remained solid, with the French goalkeeper making two saves and securing his seventh clean sheet in eight league appearances this season. Lloris had previously seen his 593-minute scoreless streak end in a 4-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes over the weekend, but he showed resilience in this contest.
LAFC (5-2-2, 17 points), after an impressive start to the season, has struggled offensively in recent matches, with a winless record of 0-2-1 in their last three league outings. Forward Heung-Min Son, who remains scoreless through eight MLS games, continues to contribute with seven assists but has yet to find the back of the net. The team has shown strong defensive form, however, conceding just six goals this season, ranking among the best in the Western Conference.
Colorado’s offensive efforts were led by forward Rafael Navarro, who is tied for the league lead in goal contributions with 10 (six goals). However, he was kept off the scoresheet in this match as LAFC’s defense held firm.
The Rapids will look to build on this solid defensive performance as they continue their season, while LAFC will aim to find their attacking rhythm in their upcoming fixtures.
