Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique expressed disappointment over his team’s lack of intensity after PSG ended their Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-1 defeat to local rivals Paris FC on Sunday.

Despite already securing a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title, PSG struggled to find motivation in their final league match of the season, according to Luis Enrique.

“Nothing positive to say about this match,” the Spanish coach told reporters after the loss.

“When you play football without ambition or intensity, this is the sort of thing you’d expect to see. I knew before the match how difficult it would be to play this sort of game with no objective, but I’m a bit disappointed,” he added.

PSG now shift their focus to the UEFA Champions League final on May 30, where they will defend their European crown against Arsenal.

Luis Enrique said his players must remain mentally prepared despite the long break before the final.

“I think my players need to overcome difficult matches and stay motivated,” he said.

“The final part of the season will be more complicated than usual because last year we played in the French Cup final and that was very motivating for us.

“But there are still two weeks to go before what I’d call the most important match in our history, and I certainly hope that by that day, there’ll be no need to motivate the players.” -Reporting by Aadi Nair in Bengaluru; Editing by Peter Rutherford/Reuters
