LIVERPOOL, England – Everton ended a seven-match winless streak at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Burnley on Tuesday, boosting their chances of European qualification. Meanwhile, Leeds United’s Premier League survival hopes suffered another blow as they fell 1-0 at home to Sunderland.

James Tarkowski’s first-half header and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s second-half strike secured eighth-placed Everton their first home win in nearly three months, lifting them to 43 points—just two behind sixth-placed Chelsea.

Leeds had the opportunity to extend their lead over 18th-placed West Ham United to nine points but were denied as Sunderland claimed the win through a second-half penalty converted by Habib Diarra at a lively Elland Road. Earlier, a goal by Joe Rodon for Leeds was ruled out for offside, just minutes before the penalty was awarded following a VAR review of Ethan Ampadu’s handball.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth and Brentford played to a 0-0 draw, moving Bournemouth into the top half of the table while leaving Brentford in seventh place. Bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers were set to host fifth-placed Liverpool in a later kickoff.
