GLASGOW, Scotland — Celtic and Rangers fans clashed on the pitch at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday following the latest "Old Firm" derby, one of the fiercest rivalries in world football.
Celtic emerged victorious in the Scottish Cup quarter-final, winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regular time. The match took place in front of 50,000 spectators in a tense, electric atmosphere at Rangers' home ground.
During the celebrations, some fans hurled objects and flares onto the pitch, with a few covering their faces. Police and stewards quickly formed barriers to separate the groups as players hurried off the field.
The Scottish Football Association condemned the violence and announced a full investigation into the incidents.
This match marked the first time in eight years that Celtic received a full allocation of 7,500 away tickets. The Glasgow derby, which dates back to 1888, remains one of football's oldest and most intense rivalries, often fueled by historical political and religious divisions. -Tommy Lund in Gdansk; Editing by Andrew Cawthorne/Reuters
