CONCACAF has rejected FIFA's proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup during a meeting on Thursday but stopped short of joining UEFA's plan to boycott the global tournament.
The North, Central America and Caribbean soccer governing body said its 41 member associations raised concerns over the proposal, citing a lack of due process, a short timeline for review and the absence of approval from relevant FIFA governance bodies.
"The discussion reinforced the need for greater transparency and proper governance," CONCACAF said in a statement. "For these reasons, CONCACAF and its 41 Member Associations have rejected the proposal."
Meanwhile, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) said it would conduct its own review of the plan before deciding its position.
The FMF said FIFA informed it about the proposal on July 28 and that member associations would receive additional details and documents through a series of round-table discussions before a final decision is made.
"The FMF will complete this process of study and analysis in order to take the decision that best serves the development of Mexican football," the federation said in a statement.
The FMF did not clarify whether it supported CONCACAF's decision to reject the proposal.
