SOCCER: Chelsea sign Morgan Rogers in record British deal

Chelsea have signed England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa on a contract until 2033, with both Premier League clubs confirming the move on Tuesday.

British media reported that the deal is worth £117 million ($157 million), which would make Rogers the most expensive British player in football history. Neither club disclosed the financial details of the transfer.

According to Sky Sports, the total package could exceed the reported fee of up to £116 million that Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest earlier this month for midfielder Elliot Anderson.

Rogers’ transfer surpasses Chelsea’s previous record signing, Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo, who joined the club from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115 million in 2023.

The 22-year-old forward expressed his excitement after completing the move, saying Chelsea has always been a club he admired.

"I'm so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid," Rogers said in a club statement.

"I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got and where the club is heading. That's why I'm here, and I can't wait to get started."
