WOLVERHAMPTON, England – Mohamed Salah ended his 10-game Premier League goal drought, but Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat to bottom-side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Tuesday, dealing a blow to their Champions League qualification hopes.

Liverpool remain fifth in the table with 48 points from 29 games, while Wolves’ recent resurgence has lifted them to 16 points from 30 matches.

A victory for Chelsea at Aston Villa on Wednesday could see Liverpool drop to sixth in the standings after their ninth defeat of the season. The Reds have not lost 10 league games in a single season for a decade.

Wolves, under manager Rob Edwards, have clearly improved, scoring late goals through Rodrigo Gomes and Andre, either side of Salah’s strike, bringing life to an otherwise dull game in the final 15 minutes.

Edwards has instilled fight in his side, helping Wolves record back-to-back wins over top-five teams following their weekend win over Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Liverpool put in another lackluster performance.

The two sides will meet again at Molineux on Friday for their FA Cup fifth-round tie.
