According to British media reports, Burn was immediately taken to the hospital after sustaining the injuries late in the first half. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe confirmed the news after the match, revealing that the England international was struggling to breathe at halftime.
"He was struggling to breathe at halftime. I think it's a real problem," Howe said in his post-match comments.
Newcastle United has yet to respond to requests for further comment on Burn’s condition.
The Magpies, currently in 12th place in the Premier League standings, will face Fulham in a League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday before continuing their Premier League campaign at home against Chelsea on Saturday.
