Nyjah Huston, widely regarded as one of the greatest street skateboarders of all time, suffered a fractured skull and eye socket in a skateboarding accident, he revealed on Monday.
The 31-year-old American, who competed at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics and won a bronze medal in Paris, is one of the most decorated and recognizable figures in skateboarding. Huston has claimed multiple SLS Super Crown World Championships and X Games gold medals throughout his career.
In an Instagram post, Huston described the accident as “a harsh reminder how death-defying skating massive rails can be.” He added, “Taking it one day at a time. I hope y'all had a better New Year than me. We live to fight another day.”
Huston shared photos of himself in a hospital bed and a wheelchair, including a close-up showing his bruised and swollen right eye.
Last year, Huston stated his goal to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, an ambition that now faces uncertainty as he recovers.
