MILAN – Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis has been named to Canada’s men’s Olympic ice hockey roster, replacing injured centre Brayden Point, the Canadian Olympic Committee and Hockey Canada announced Thursday.
Point, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021, had not played for over three weeks due to a leg injury sustained in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Jarvis, added to the team just one week before Canada’s opening Olympic match against the Czech Republic, was part of Canada’s victorious 4 Nations Face-Off squad last year.
Point is the second player Canada has had to replace on its men’s Olympic roster this week. Conn Smythe winner Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers was named as a replacement for injured centre Anthony Cirelli on Tuesday. The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded to the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Milano Cortina Games mark the return of NHL players to the Olympics for the first time since 2014, bringing extra attention to the men’s ice hockey tournament.
