CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy — Norway’s downhill skier Marte Monsen will rejoin the women’s Olympic Alpine team in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Thursday following a crash in Switzerland last weekend, the national team announced.

Monsen was one of three skiers, including U.S. veteran Lindsey Vonn, to fall during the Crans-Montana race last Friday. The race was later canceled after Vonn’s fall.

The 26-year-old Monsen was seen clutching her knees after being freed from the netting. She was placed on a stretcher and carried away with a bloodied face.

“In consultation with the health team, it has been decided that Marte Monsen will leave Norway and join the Norwegian squad in Cortina tomorrow,” the team said.

“Monsen has been home for examinations and follow-up. Over the next few days, it will be assessed whether she is ready for the downhill on Sunday,” they added.

The downhill race will open the women’s Olympic program. Thursday’s training has already been canceled due to heavy snowfall.
