EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers signed veteran goaltender Frederik Andersen to a one-year, $2.8 million contract on Wednesday, adding an experienced netminder after his standout postseason with the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.

The 36-year-old Andersen agreed to an incentive-based deal that includes a $1 million salary cap hit for the 2026-27 season, with up to $1.8 million in performance bonuses tied to his regular-season appearances and playoff success, according to multiple media reports.

Edmonton is looking to strengthen its goaltending depth after Tristan Jarry struggled following his December trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins, posting an .857 save percentage during the regular season. The Oilers also acquired 24-year-old goaltender Devon Levi in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.

Andersen played a key role in Carolina's Stanley Cup-winning campaign, compiling a 13-2 record in the playoffs with a 1.89 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage in 16 games. He later revealed he had sustained a knee injury earlier in the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights, prompting rookie Brandon Bussi to take over in net as the Hurricanes secured their first championship since 2006.

During the 2025-26 regular season, Andersen went 16-14-5 with a 3.05 goals-against average and an .874 save percentage in 35 games during his fifth season with Carolina.

Originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Andersen has compiled a 324-149-58 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage over 552 career games (538 starts) with the Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Hurricanes.
