Jake Oettinger made 26 saves as the Dallas Stars extended their point streak to 13 games with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.
Jamie Benn scored the game-winning goal on a second-period power play, while Oskar Back also tallied for Dallas. The win marked the Stars’ fourth consecutive victory against the Golden Knights dating back to last season.
The 13-game point streak (12-0-1) ties the second-longest in team history for Dallas, joining similar runs in 1999-2000 and 2000-01. The team record is 15 games, set in 1998-99, when the Stars went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Jack Eichel scored for Vegas, which suffered its third straight loss and sixth in seven games.
After a scoreless, tightly contested first period featuring just seven combined shots on goal, Eichel gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 1:31 of the second period with a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Oettinger on the blocker side.
Dallas responded midway through the period when Back converted a backhanded rebound from a Colin Blackwell shot into the top left corner. The Stars then took a 2-1 lead at 14:16 on a power-play goal by Benn. Wyatt Johnston’s shot in the slot fluttered into the air, and Benn, positioned at the right post, batted the puck over Adin Hill’s shoulder.
The goal marked the 10th straight game Dallas scored on the power play, the longest streak in the NHL this season.
Dallas appeared to extend its lead midway through the third period when Jason Robertson scored on a Mavrik Bourque pass, but the goal was overturned due to a kicking motion.
Vegas pulled Hill for an extra attacker with 1:50 remaining, but Oettinger turned away two final shots to secure the win.
With the victory, the Stars continue their push toward the playoffs, keeping their momentum alive as the season approaches its final stretch.
