Victor Wembanyama matched his season-high with 41 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 127-113 victory over a short-handed Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.
Stephon Castle and Julian Champagnie added 15 points each for the Spurs (58-18), who extended their winning streak to 10 games, moving within two games of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top spot in the Western Conference.
Wembanyama scored his 41 points in just 29 minutes, tying his season-best performance from Monday's home game against the Chicago Bulls. With 16 rebounds in that Chicago game, he became the first Spurs player to record consecutive 40-point double-doubles.
For the Warriors (36-40), Nate Williams led seven players in double figures with 18 points, just one shy of his career high. Golden State fell 2 1/2 games behind the Portland Trail Blazers in the race for the ninth spot in the West.
Missing key players including Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford, the Warriors struggled as the Spurs dominated from the start. Wembanyama’s 27 points and 13 rebounds helped San Antonio build a 70-49 lead by halftime.
The Warriors never seriously threatened in the second half, resting their top two healthy players, Draymond Green (21 minutes) and Brandin Podziemski (17), for most of the final two periods ahead of a back-to-back.
Wembanyama shot 16 of 22 overall, including 14 of 16 inside the arc, and contributed three of the Spurs' six blocks. Castle recorded a double-double with a game-high 11 assists.
Harrison Barnes and Dylan Harper added 13 points each, while De’Aaron Fox and Keldon Johnson contributed 11 apiece for San Antonio, which has won seven straight on the road, including five by at least 14 points.
Golden State received season-high 17 points from Omer Yurtseven and LJ Cryer. Green, Podziemski, and Pat Spencer each scored 14 points, with Seth Curry adding 12. Spencer led the Warriors in rebounds (8) and assists (7).
